Ten Black comic shop owners just joined forces to create The Ink Alliance, a powerhouse collective transforming how Black creators, local communities, and comic fans can build power and change the culture in the industry. I'm sitting down today with owners from three of those shops: Jermaine Exum from Acme Comics (my local shop) in Greensboro, NC; Phillip Rollins from Offbeat in Jackson, MS; and Mike Davis from The Blerds Underground in La Grange, IL. They share the incredible origin story behind their sold-out DC Comics variant from superstar artist Sanford Greene for New Titans #38 featuring the newest member of the Titans, Static; the origin story of The Ink Alliance and why Black comic shop representation matters; the history and cultural impact of Milestone Media, Static , Vixen, and Black comic creators; strategies for supporting local comic shops, putting in comic pre-orders, and supporting Black-owned businesses; and their 5-year vision for changing Black representation in the comics retail space. 📌 FOLLOW THE INK ALLIANCE: • Instagram & Threads: @InkAllianceShops • Web: https://theinkalliance.org
