One of my favorite people in comics, Kelly Thompson (Absolute Wonder Woman, Jeff the Land Shark), is back on the show to talk about her new Skybound Universal Monsters project The Bride of Frankenstein Lives with artist Mattia De Iulis. In 1935, The Bride of Frankenstein spent 75 minutes building to a woman with no lines, one scream, and the most iconic hair in horror film history. That scream has echoed for 90 years. Going into the conversation, I expected an exploration about the queer identity themes in the original film and its stance against heteronormativity, but Kelly delivered a very modern story about the struggle of women. We get into the Bride's battle with bodily autonomy, the cost of being built for someone else's purpose, and how Kelly found her way into the character. Kelly also discusses what Absolute Wonder Woman and The Bride have in common and teases her future Dynamite project Buffy the Vampire Slayer. ⚠️ Content note: this conversation touches on consent, sexual assault, and women's safety.
